There are a few guitarists that are historically important. When they pass, Every Guitar Has A Story usually takes a moment to focus on the actual instrument. It might be interesting to get ahead of the pattern.

Steve Howe was in super rock groups, including YES and Asia.  Iconic guitar performances ring in our memories. He is not dead. He does have a guitar that could be auctioned for a fortune. It is a Gibson ES-175. It has been his main guitar since the 1970s.

Here is the short story. He bought it in 1964 when he was 17. He knew what he wanted. It was a special order placed at a London music store.

He put money down and made payments over a few years.

He has many other guitars, but this one has been in a long term relationship with the player. He has played it on hits in the studio, live on important tours and he keeps it clean and close. They say it is in near perfect condition after all these years.

Maybe Steve Howe’s Gibson ES-175 will end up in an auction and you could win it for $75.

When a guitarist of impact passes, we can take minute to reflect. Ace Freely,

The Space Ace in KISS made it to age 74. From 1973 to 1982 he was on that KISS stage

with those silver stars painted around his eyes. He fell in his studio last month and finally died

of brain bleed.

Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, influence on millions of guitarists, cultural phenomenon all apply.

Ace had a lot of guitars, including a Gibson named after him.

But there was that one, the Light Guitar.

It was a blonde Les Paul from the 1950s.

He had the face routed to accommodate 1000 incandescent lights.

The lights were powered by a battery pack.

Steve Carr was the luthier. His partner was a toy designer, John Elder Robison.

John also designed a control panel for effects and Steve put The Space Ace inlay on the headstock.
