The Bay State Parlor Guitar

It is rare for us to see a guitar that was made 100 years ago. The Bay State Parlor guitar that Doug Spencer restored so beautifully was a treat.

Bay State is important historically.

It was at the end of the Civil War when John C. Haynes Company started making them in Boston. Martin didn’t start making guitars until the 1890s.

The Haynes Company made about 30,000 guitars from 1865 until 1903.

The impact on American guitars was enormous.
