There are just a few guitar icons who have a sound that is instantly recognizable. One recently passed away, but barely got a mention.

Mick Raphs first entered my ears as the guitar sound on Mott The Hoople. “All The Young Dudes” was on my radio in 1973, but the amusing song on that collection was “All The way from Memphis.”

It was about his guitar getting stolen in Long Island before the next gig in Memphis. “Forgot my six string razor hit the sky, Halfway to Memphis before I realized…“ All guitar players have a story like that.

He went on to form Bad Company with Paul Rogers. “Can’t Get Enough” was a huge hit written by Mick Ralphs.

So what does a guy like that play? In Mott The Hoople, he played a 1957 Les Paul Jr. He later switched to a vintage 1958 Fender Strat and a 1952 Esquire.

It looks like there are, at least, half a dozen priceless Mick Ralphs guitars out there. When Mick died, June 23, 2025,  he had a wife, two sons and three stepchildren. A good guitar hunter would start with the estate documents. Please bring one of these treasures to the next videotaping of Every Guitar Has A Story. We will be at The KC Guitar Show on Oct. 11-12, 2025. http://KCGuitarShow.com

Here’s a video of Mitch Ryder’s guitar player.

That is an interesting axe.

Amigo Nashville Guitar Show was huge and expensive for dealers.

When they said “Nashville,” they meant Franklin, Tennessee.

That’s 35 miles outside of Nashville in a County AgExpo building.

This is a normal guitar show. Most guitar shows are held on county fairgrounds or livestock buildings away from the population. They are a destination event. You are not going to be in the neighborhood and just stop by.

The KC Guitar Show, October 11-12, is rethinking the status quo.

The contracts are in place for a 6200 square foot space in The Ward Parkway Shopping Center. The show will be in great company with Target, Trader Joe’s, AMC Theater, Home Goods, Old Navy, T. J. Maxx, Bath & Body Works as well as nearly a dozen eateries.

The two day show will be inside the beautiful mall. It is set up for 20 guitar dealers from across the country. Dealers will experience white glove service that unloads and loads for them. The public will experience a chance to buy rare instruments or sell their instruments to the dealers. The savvy ones will trade gear they no longer love for something more useful without spending a dime.

“Every Guitar Has A Story” will be videotaping both days. Do you have a cool axe with a story? This is your moment.
